Incommunicable Forvever
The Phrase Unspoken
Could have sparked an idea
Could have given advice
Could have broken a vow
Could have delighted a child
Could have earned a man’s trust
Could have held a horrid lie
Could have spoken clear truth
Could have saved a life
Could have shattered a heart
Could have promised things to come
Could have opposed beliefs
Could have left a person numb
Could have made a friend
Could have lost one too
Could have been a phrase
That made your day not so blue
Could have begun a conservation
Could have led to many things
And that simplistic phrase
Could have been a gift to human beings
Could have released tears of despair
Could have birthed a hint of a smile
Could have caused desolation and for some,
That phrase could have gone a mile
But that phrase, that phrase
The one never uttered
Stayed on the strained lips of the speaker who couldn’t
And it stayed there, soon to become a lost thought
Trying to dive off that tongue
Trying to feel the air
Trying to be heard and remembered
Trying, trying, trying, but in vain
For the speaker stopped, and let the darkness descend
And the phrase was slowly engulfed
Never to be heard, never to be known again
Slowly slunk back, back, and back
And it stayed there, waiting for the second chance that
would never come and never did
Incommunicable forever
