Campfire
The Sun sinks behind the verdant emerald pines
emblazoning the sky with a vibrant but subtle blaze
Smoke curls off the leaping flames and ascends
shrouding the sky with its dark gray veil

The Moon reclaims its throne upon the twilight sky
as the stars orchestrate their silent twinkling rhythm
A lazy breeze blows teasingly over the nearby lake
and ripples reach out towards the wind in reply

The symphony of cricket chirps encircles the night
the blades of grass huddle together and shiver
A rustle emanates from a bush as a squirrel scurries home
and a chirp echoes good night from a perch upon the trees

Hills jutting out far away add contrast to the scenery
putting a sudden end to the unfolding expanse
A silhouette paws its way to one of the peaks
and unleashes a blasting howl towards the Moon

Closest burns the startling flare of the campfire
blanketing its area with a warm embrace of comfort
The blue, red, and yellow infuse within the flames
as sleep beckons from beyond the darkened mountains
