The Drapes Were Closed Then
The drapes were closed then
but the moon ceded you the same
small drops of white in your hair
and gentlest kiss across your face
so as to not wake you
I wonder if you knew, even in sleep
when I got up and walked away,
felt the passing of my shadow cool
the warm moonlight on your cheek
and leave your side empty
I hope you feel, in the morning
the regret I left there beside you
lost somewhere in between
the silent footsteps
and unfelt words
Your bed might be smaller now
but I hope you sleep the same
under the gaze of your loving moon
tangled in blankets and pillows
and black and white dreams
